The Last Harvest

This week was bittersweet, as I stood in the field early in the morning, with the sun just starting to peak up and the morning dew on the fields and flowers. I teared up, feeling the cold air and wet petals, knowing winter was on it's way. Our first season here on the new farm, wrapped up, in the blink of an eye.

In the sweltering heat of late July, I prayed for this day to come and cool me off. But today, I felt a pang of longing, to skip winter and move right into spring. Parting with the fields full of flowers, I am not ready. But a break from the labor, to rest physically and mentally from the demanding season is probably a blessing. Time to prepare for the season ahead, which seems so far now, but I know will be here soon enough.
