Southern Maryland Weddings

At Anchored Roots Farm we’ve had a big year! Another year of growing the farm, adding more cut flower varieties-- and we got married. We wanted to share with you our experience.

Below we share with your our wedding details- flowers, food, invitations, venue, etc.

If you are planning a wedding or event here in Southern Maryland, we wanted to provide you some local knowledge and details from our experience.

Custom jewelry from Maertans Fine Jewelry in Solomon's is the perfect place to find unique jewelry and work with a small business. Their attention to detail and working with us through the whole process from getting engaged to wedding bands, to wedding party presents was exceptional.

What is a wedding without cake? We are big fans of the Eastern Shore's Smith Island cake. Maryland's best, if you ask us, comes from Classic Cakes. For our wedding we ordered the cakes over the phone and they mailed them to us overnight on dry ice. Making all those anniversary cakes easy too. ;-)

We were looking for a one-stop-shop, so Baileys Catering and Party Rentals in St. Mary's County handled our food, bar, and tents. If you are looking for good 'ol down-home Southern Maryland style food, Bailey's is your caterer. Our wedding was just shy of the first of fall, so we went with the crab balls of summer, and the fired oysters of fall. And then all the rest you can think of...mashed potatoes, green beans... we’re getting hungry just thinking about it.

That brings us to the venue. That's the old sheep barn turned event barn at historic Sotterley Plantation. And the cutting garden, managed by their Garden Guild Master Gardeners. A spectacular spot for a September ceremony among the blooms & butterflies.
For us we have a strong connection to Sotterley, being one mile from our farm and where we also sell at their farmers market.

Wentworth Nursery and Garden Center came to the rescue with sprucing up the old sheep barn with over 100 different large green and colorful plants. This pulled the whole venue together, keeping it natural yet classy, just the way we like it.

Longman Joe Norris. If you want to hear great acoustic, follow Joe's Facebook page and find him or his brother playing around Southern Maryland.

Or invite Joe to sing at your ceremony. Truly the most special moment of the day was asking Joe at the reception to play our first dance. Jake and I both agreed it was our favorite moment of the day.

The pictures you see in this post are by Rob Korb Photography located on the Eastern Shore of Maryland.

For the flowers! Leading up to our wedding, we managed the arrangements for the shower and engagement party but all of our wedding day flowers were done by another flower farm in Southern Maryland, Scarborough Farm, who offers full service flowers for weddings! It was really important to me to our 100% local flowers for our wedding, and September was an easy month to do that.

Thank you to all of our vendors and customers who supported us through this season, and we look forward to continuing to work with you all. We are lucky to live and work here in Southern Maryland!
